Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a themed land at both Disneyland resort and Walt Disney World. We will focus on the Disneyland theme park galaxy’s edge for the sake of this post. Still, Disney’s Hollywood Studios version of Galaxy’s Edge is similar, with subtle key differences worth noting.

This themed land has been a Walt Disney Company sensation since Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disneyland in 2018. Let’s just say that Disney knew what they were doing when they first created Galaxy’s Edge, and it has since become a fan favorite Disney experience and land to visit at Disney Parks.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set on planet Batuu and features all things Star Wars, such as rides, food, restaurants, drinks, apparel, toys, character sightings, and so much more from the vast Star Wars world.

Entertainment at Galaxy’s Edge

There really are no set live shows or entertainments scheduled in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Rather sometimes you’ll find the characters roaming around the area and you might be able to interact with them or snap photos of them. Sometimes they’ll talk amongst themselves which can be entertaining to watch and listen in on.

Another fun thing that people like to do which is even more immersive into the world of Star Wars is playing the Batuu Bounty Hunters game using the MagicBand+ and the Play Disney Parks app. This is a special form of entertainment for those with the MagicBand + that allows you to become a bounty hunter in the world of Batuu.

The game works by first purchasing a MagicBand+ and then you’ll begin by accepting a job at a job board in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Then your MagicBand+ will work to guide you along your path using sounds, vibrations and lights to find your target or job. This is a fun way to pass the time and have fun while exploring the world of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Characters Sightings

  • Fennec Shand
  • First Order Stormtroopers
  • Kylo Ren
  • Darth Vader
  • Vi Morandi
  • Rey
  • R2-D2
  • Chewbacca
  • Boba Fett
  • Mandalorian
  • Grogu

So, the first thing to know about Galaxy’s Edge is that there are no real official character meetings and greetings. The Star Wars characters typically just roam around planet Batuu, otherwise known to us as Galaxy’s Edge, and encounter guests. Sometimes they will interact with guests like the Storm Troopers who will interrogate people or Rey who often likes to interact with people.

Some spots that you’re more likely to encounter the Star Wars characters are the Garrison, Black Spire Outpost, the Millennium Falcon and outside near the Droid depot.

Millenium Falcon: Smugglers
Run

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is a really fun ride if you’re with a party of 2-6. The ride basically takes you on an immersive and interactive Star Wars adventure inside the Millennium Falcon where you fight bad guys as you transport or rather smuggle cargo.

This is a pretty popular ride so wait times can range from 60-80 minutes on average with wait time sometimes being even longer than that. If you can attend rope drop you’ll want to run over to this ride before lines get crazy. If you cannot attend rope drop then keep an eye on the wait times on the Disneyland app and when the time is right head over to the ride.

The ride consists of 2 pilots, 2 gunners and 2 engineers. The pilots as the name suggests will pilot the Millennium Falcon. This role is by far the funnest role to play during the ride especially since you sit right at the front of the ship so you get the best seat and best view.

One of the pilots will control up and down movements and the other will control the side to side movements. Then you have 2 gunners that will basically help to shoot down any bad guys and obstacles near and around you. Lastly, you have 2 engineers that will work to rebuild and repair the Millennium Falcon from bad guys shooting at you and from your Pilots inevitably crashing the ship with their terrible driving skills.

rise of the resistance end of ride

Rise of the Resistance

The graphics and sound effects on this ride are absolutely insane. You’ll also come into contact with the purposely rude Disney cast members acting as First Order army members. They’ll yell at you, insult you and call you names all for the experience of the ride. In fact, it is probably one of, if not the funnest of all, the rides at Disneyland Park.

The ride takes you on an immersive Star Wars Adventure. You will be captured and taken prisoner by the First Order. Then you’ll be taken onto the First Order Star Destroyer, where you will be interrogated and yelled at by Disney Cast members and by a very angry Kylo Ren himself. Then you will you be broken out by the Resistance and the ride begins as you run away from Kylo Ren. This is a dark trackless ride full of twists, turns, raises and drops. Graphics and sound effects are amazing so pay attention to every little detail, buckle up and stow away all loose accessories like hats, ears, glasses, phones, etc.

Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is a very immersive and exciting ride which also means its high in popularity and wait times. Be mindful that this is an extremely popular ride so the queue lines will be excessively long. Average queue wait times for this ride are going to be anywhere from 60-90 minutes long. If you are able to attend rope drop you’ll want to prioritize this ride and head here right at rope drop when lines aren’t crazy long yet. If you are unable to attend rope drop then use the Disneyland app to keep an eye on the wait times and when the time isn’t too crazy for you then head over to the ride.

The ride also sometimes breaks down and they will shut the ride down until they can fix it. When they do shut the ride down they just stop letting people join the line but they do not force you to leave the lines. With that said we suggest you remain in line so as to keep your spot in the queue. Often lots of people will leave and it will shorten the wait times for you. Plus they usually don’t take very long to fix the ride so you definitely won’t want to leave only to lose your spot and for it to open back up within 5-10 minute after you just left.

First Order TIE Echelon Ship at star wars land disneyland

Photo Spots

Garrison

This is a very famous photo-taking spot in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with good reason. The Garrison is the area where the Storm Troopers hang out near the First Order TIE Echelon ship. The best photos can be taken right in front of the TIE Echelon with Storm Troopers in the background.

Typically photos come out really great both during the day and at dusk. The daytime photos are great here because not a single detail of the TIE Echelon or you are missed. Photos taken at dusk or even after dark are really cool because you’ll see the TIE Echelon lit up and the entire area is illuminated with backlight. But it can be hard to capture all of the unique details that make this area so cool, and sometimes it can be hard to see yourself.

So, if you want to be in the photos, we recommend taking photos during the day so you can be clearly seen in your photos. But if you just want photos of the ship and the Storm Troopers, then you should take photos at dusk or nighttime to see the illuminated ship. This is a very popular photo-taking spot, so we recommend taking photos before park opening at rope drop to avoid as many people being in your photos.

Love Disneyland? Then make sure to explore Avengers Headquarters for all your Marvel Favorites, and dont forget to Explore Disney California Adventures Cars Land!

Star Wars Galaxy's edge millenium falcon at night

Millennium Falcon

The famous Millennium Falcon is a top photo-taking spot for obvious reasons. The ship itself is huge and uniquely designed with so many fine details that even being near the ship makes you feel like you’re about to go on a mission to save the galaxy. This area is very popular so it’s really hard to get good photos without anyone near you.

To avoid large crowds or tons of people being in your photos, we recommend taking all of your photos very early in the morning, probably around rope drop. During rope drop, people are typically more preoccupied with finding their favorite ride than they are with taking photos which makes this the perfect time to snap some photos.

Daylight is the best time to get photos with the Millennium Falcon so you can capture both yourself and the Millennium Falcon without missing out on any details that you might miss in the dark. If you just want photos of the Millennium Falcon by itself, then you can certainly take photos at night as you’ll see the spires behind the ship, and the ship itself will light up.
