If you’re a fan of Star Wars, then the idea of creating your own custom-made Disneyland Lightsaber is probably a dream you’ve had since you were a kid, at least for us, it was 😍. I remember watching Star Wars and falling in love with the story and wishing I could have had my very own custom Lightsaber or pre-built Lightsaber 😆.

I mean, a girl will take what she can get! This is what’s so great about Disney; they made sure to include Lightsabers for everyone, whether you can shill out $$$ for a hand-built lightsaber or the pre-built model is more in your budget. Whatever the case, we are here to help you learn more about the different varieties of Star Wars Lightsabers so you can have an idea of what to budget for or what you might want to get 👀.

Savi’s Workshop Hand Built Lightsabers

Reservations at Savi’s Workshop

Reservations for the Galaxy’s edge lightsaber building experience can be made up to 60 days in advance using either the Disney experience App or the Disneyland website. From there you can check availability and continue to book your reservation. Keep in mind a valid theme park reservation for the same day as your Savi’s workshop reservation is also required to gain access to the Disneyland park. The reservation is not transferable so keep this in mind before your purchase.

To make a reservation you must have a valid credit card to input for the booking. Though the card will not be charged at the time of booking, it will only be charged should you fail to show up for the reservation.

Cancellations at Savi’s Workshop

You must cancel at least one day in advance of your reservation or you will be charged a cancellation fee. If you fail to cancel at least one day prior or you fail to show up to your reservation then you will be charged a fee to the credit card used while booking the reservation. This fee is charged per builder at the high price of $219.99, otherwise known as the price of the product.

Check in

You should check in at least 10 minutes before your reservation time to ensure that everyone in the party is there on time and there are no late arrivals. Any late parties or late arrivals will not be accommodated. Also ensure that you have the credit card used at the time of booking and a photo ID as well as a reference of your reservation confirmation incase a cast member asks for it during check in.

How to pay for a Lightsaber

You will only be charged the product price upon arrival or check in to Savi’s workshop. The only other time you would be charged would be for failure to cancel your reservation at least one day in advance or failure to show up to the reservation.

Age recommendation for lightsabers?

The recommended age for a builder to enjoy the experience and not have any trouble during the experience is 5 years of age or older. At least one person present in the party must be age 14 or older.

Are Custom-made Lightsabers returnable or refundable?

Any custom lightsaber built at Savi’s workshop is not refundable or returnable. They are also not eligible for any discounts.

If you tend to have buyer's remorse about many things (we feel you), then make sure to read our Disney's Return Guide.

Same day reservations

It can be very hard to find a same day or walk in reservation. Typically, if same day reservation times are not showing as available online or on the Disneyland app then you can head over to Savi’s and ask the workers there if there is anything available. Sometimes there will be something available but you’ll have to wait a while or it’ll be at a very random time so you might have to come back later.

Building Your Custom Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop

The building experience area is limited to one guest as a builder and two guests accompanying but not building. The builder will be able to build only one lightsaber which will include a carrying case. Any additional items for the lightsaber can be purchased at Dok- Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

During the building process you will become a lightsaber builder and get to select your Kyber Crystal which essentially determines which color your lightsaber will glow. You’ll get to select a hilt style and then build the hilt. After this the Gatherers working at Savi’s Workshop will help you connect your blade to your hilt for the final completion of your custom Lightsaber.

Kyber Crystal

You will get to choose your Kyber Crystal which essentially determines the color of your lightsaber. The colors available are…

  • Blue, like Luke Skywalker and Rey before their lightsabers changed colors.
  • Green, like Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Violet, like Mace Windu the only person in Star Wars canon to wield a purple lightsaber.
  • Red, like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren

Hilt

There are four hilt themes available for building a lightsaber at Savi’s workshop. The four hilt styles were designed with certain ideations and morals in mind which will be made clear by the names of them. Each hilt theme embodies these ideations.

The four hilt styles are…

  • Power and Control (my favorite)
  • Peace and Justice
  • Elemental Nature
  • Protection and Defense

After choosing and building your hilt, you’ll then hand it over to a Gatherer at Savi’s workshop and they will attach your hilt to a 31″ long lightsaber blade to create your very own lightsaber.

Hilt parts

Once you’ve chosen your hilt theme you will be given a package containing the parts you need and some to choose from, the leftovers you will give back to the Gatherers to put back into Savi’s inventory when you’re done. In this package of parts you will have…

  • 1 hilt
  • 4 sleeves- you will pick two of the four to keep. The other two you will give back.
  • 2 emitters- you will pick one to use and the other you will give back.
  • 2 pommel caps- you will pick one to use and the other you will give back.
  • 2 sets of activation plates and switches- you will pick one of the two to use, the other you will give back.
After building your snazzy lightsaber, make sure you have a chance to ride one of the most fun rides at Disneyland! That's right! Rise of the resistance! But beware, the lines are ghastly, so make sure to read our Star Wars Ride Guide 👀.
star wars lightsaber build your own station

Star Wars Trading Post and The Star Trader build your own lightsabers

The build your own lightsaber station at The Star Trader and Star Wars Trading Post is the next handbuilt lightsaber option you can purchase at Disneyland. These build your own lightsaber options allow you to choose and customize the hilt and choose a blade.

This is a very cheap option for young Padawans looking to build a lightsaber but can’t afford Savi’s handbuilt lightsabers. This is also a great first time lightsaber for kids who can’t be trusted to not break or lose their toys.

These handbuilt lightsabers will run from $30 to around $50 depending on the build that you may want such as a single blade or a double blade.

Since you're into collecting, yes, we assumed because any big fan of star wars probably has a few trinkets at home 👀, anyways! Consider learning about Pin trading! There are loads of pins at Disney to trade with others, and the whole trading system is super fun!
legacy lightsabers at disneyland

Legacy Lightsabers

These are pretty high quality and are essentially made as replicas of the actual lightsabers used by all of our favorite characters from the Star Wars movies. The legacy lightsaber is relatively new having only come out in 2019 and new ones being released each year.

These lightsabers are pretty expensive as they are made from higher quality materials and are replicas of movie lightsabers. The cost of the legacy lightsaber ranges from $149-$249 depending on the model and build.

When you buy a legacy lightsaber from the parks you can purchase a hilt and a blade. But if you purchase online you can either purchase a legacy lightsaber collectible set or just a legacy lightsaber hilt by itself. Currently the only place to purchase a standalone lightsaber blade for a hilt attachment or a replacement blade is going to be at Disney parks. When you purchase a legacy lightsaber collectible set online it will come with a carrying case, hilt, blade, display stand and a belt clip.

Pre-built Lightsabers

Since most of us can’t fathom spending over $200 on a lightsaber that we will most likely just have sitting around at home collecting dust after our Disney trip is over, there are cheaper options if you still want to collect a lightsaber toy.

These cheaper options are the pre-built lightsabers sold in the shops in Galaxy’s Edge. They’re more affordable and won’t burn a hole in your pocket like the super expensive handbuilt lightsaber will. Options range from the blue lightsabers to the super cool looking Kylo Ren lightsaber.

If you're in a hurry, then make sure you master Disneylands Mobile Merchandise System, so you can be on the go with your lightsaber in a jiffy and waste less time in long lines.

Disneyland Lightsabers FAQ

How much does a Lightsaber cost?

It depends on whether you want to build one at Savi’s workshop or you’d like to buy a pre-built lightsaber. The handbuilt ones at Savi’s are sure to burn a hole in your pocket with their price of $219.99 per lightsaber including tax. The pre-built lightsabers sold in the shops in Galaxy’s edge are going to cost around $34.99.

Are the custom lightsabers at Disneyland worth it?

This question is pretty subjective. Some might say its definitely worth it while others may not feel the same way. If you’re a die hard fan and are all in it for the experience and the cool souvenirs then we’d say do it. But if you’re not a super Star Wars fan or you’re not into collecting miscellaneous memorabilia then probably better to go with a cheaper pre-built lightsaber or not at all.

Can you buy lightsabers instead of building them at Disneyland?

Yes, there are some lightsabers that are pre-built that you can purchase at the shops located in Galaxy’s Edge. These lightsabers are affordable and easily replaceable as they’re also sold online if ever lost or broken.

Where can you buy a lightsaber at Disneyland?

There are several shops located in Star Wars Galaxy’s edge that you can purchase a pre-built lightsaber at.

Are lightsabers available at Walt Disney World?

Yes, you can purchase both handbuilt and pre-built lightsabers at Disney World’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

Will Disney ship your lightsaber home?

Are there any similar building experiences available at Disneyland?

Yes, there is a droid building experience available that is very similar only you will be building a droid like R2-D2 or BB8. This experience is available at the Droid Depot in Disneyland.
